Noticed this week that Oppo is rolling out ColorOS 17 and MediaTek brought the Dimensity 9600 series to Malaysia, which usually means the current flagship generation starts getting price cuts within a few weeks. Honor just put the 600S on sale at RM1,299 and Samsung's year-end promo is handing out up to RM650 in TNG eWallet credit with selected purchases. So it feels like the right moment to ask: buy now, or hold everything for 11.11? My own rule is that phone prices drop in two waves — the first when the new chipset lands, the second on 11.11 night itself. Buying in between is the worst spot, because you pay close to launch price for a model that is about to be replaced. The catch is stock. The colour and storage variants people actually want disappear first, and by 11.11 you are choosing between the 128GB nobody wants and the gold one. Last year I waited, saved about RM120, and spent the difference on a case and a screen protector out of pure frustration. So what is your plan this year — grab the October or payday promo while stock is still good, or wait for 11.11? And does your answer change for iPhone versus Android?

For Android I would wait, but the window is small. Once the new chipset phones are on the shelf the old model drops, then it stays flat all the way to 11.11.
My rule has always been simple — never pay launch price for a phone that is more than six months old. The October promos are usually enough, no need to fight the 11.11 crowd.
The freebies matter more than the discount for me. The eWallet credit and the extra warranty bundled in are worth more than the RM80 difference people wait three weeks for.
For iPhone I would not wait at all. Apple prices barely move on 11.11 here, the savings come from the freebies and the trade-in bonus, so the timing matters far less than the bundle.
The stock point is underrated. I waited for 11.11 last year for the 256GB and only the 128GB was left, bundled with a free powerbank I never used.
Best of both worlds: buy the model you want now on a 0% instalment plan, then spend the 11.11 voucher money on accessories instead of watching the price drop two weeks later.
