DC Handal switched on charge points up to 120kW at Zenith Suites in Cameron Tanah Rata on 23 October 2026, and JomCharge's 50kW DC unit in the Sunway Pyramid B1 carpark went live the same week. Until now the run up to Tanah Rata was the trip everybody warned you about: one slow AC point if you were lucky, and a long lunch waiting for it. I am looking at driving up over the Deepavali weekend, which falls on Sunday 8 November this year, so the roads will be busy and the cool weather means the air-conditioning is off most of the climb. The part I cannot work out from a charging map is the climb itself — Tapah to Ringlet pulls hard for over an hour, and I have no idea how much of the battery the ascent actually takes versus what the descent gives back. So for anyone who has already done the drive in an EV: did you arrive with the buffer you expected, and would you trust a single DC point in Tanah Rata on a long weekend when every other EV heading up has the same idea?

The climb is not the problem, the descent is where people get caught. Regeneration on the way down fills the pack enough that drivers skip the charger in Ringlet and then find the one in Tanah Rata occupied by a car parked overnight.
Ask the hotel first whether their plug is a proper 3-pin socket or a shared outdoor point. Two places I stayed at in Brinchang advertised charging and what they meant was an extension reel through the lobby window.
I would plan the stop around lunch rather than around the battery. A slow AC top-up while you eat gets you back down comfortably, and you are not queuing behind three cars for the fast one.
Bring a portable charger with a long cable and a surge protector. The newer housing estates up there are fine, but the older bungalows trip the breaker the moment the kettle goes on at the same time.
Does anyone know if the Zenith Suites point is open to the public or residents only? A lot of these condo installations sit behind a gantry and you only find out at the barrier.
Leave early enough to be past Tapah before seven. The climb in the dark with a lorry in front of you burns more than the same drive in daylight, and the Lata Iskandar stretch is where the convoy bunches up.
