The Christmas gift sets start appearing this weekend. The KOSE Christmas Gifting Season runs from 1 November to 31 December at Isetan KLCC and The Gardens, with skincare gift sets listed up to 47% off, which puts the whole season on the shelf ten days before 11.11 even opens. That gap is what I keep going back and forth on. A set bought in the mall is a fixed box you can open, smell and compare against the bottle you already own, and the counter staff will usually tell you honestly whether the hero item is full size or a travel bottle. A set bought on the eleventh is cheaper on paper once the vouchers stack, except the delivery window lands somewhere in December that nobody will confirm, and the shade you wanted is frequently the first one gone. Last year I did one of each and the mall set was the one that actually got given away on time. The online one turned up after the family lunch it was meant for, which no amount of voucher stacking fixes. So how are you doing it this year? Buy the box while you can see it, wait for the eleventh and gamble on stock, or skip gift sets altogether and get one thing the person will actually use? Genuinely curious which route has burned people less.

A set is only worth it if you would use two of the three things inside. I gifted one last year where the toner was the only item anyone touched and the rest is still sitting in a drawer.
The counter staff at Isetan will normally open the box for you if you ask, which settles the shade question in about a minute instead of guessing from the picture on the carton.
I went the online route two years running and twice the box arrived with the corners crushed. Pretty gift boxes travel badly in December and the courier is not going to replace packaging.
Check whether the set is this season's packaging or last year's relabelled. A couple of counters quietly move the old boxes to the front when the new stock lands.
Waiting for the eleventh is fine if you are buying for yourself. For gifting, the shades people actually want are usually the first to go, and a set in the wrong shade is worse than no set.
Cool aircond, testers at the counter and a proper look at the texture beats a product photo every time for me. I would rather pay a little more and hand over something I have seen in person.
