Apple Malaysia published its out-of-warranty repair prices for the iPhone Duo this week, and the folding inner screen alone is RM4,749 — more than a brand new iPhone 17. The outer screen is RM1,799, the back glass RM909, and a battery replacement is RM1,049. Those are the official rates quoted on 20 October 2026, so nobody can say they were not warned. AppleCare+ for the Duo is RM1,499 and runs two years. With it, an inner screen repair drops to a flat RM469, outer screen and back glass become RM139 each, and the cover layer drops to RM99. One hinge or one drop roughly pays for the plan, but the cheaper RM139 rate only applies if the chassis is not bent, and you have just 60 days from purchase to add it. The set goes on sale at Apple Store TRX this Friday, 23 October, and pre-orders are already closed, so anyone walking in is deciding on protection in the same week they decide on the phone. So: did you take the plan, use a telco or credit card device protection instead, or just self-insure and hope the crease survives two years?

Self-insure is what I have always done, but on a folding phone I would take the plan. One hinge repair wipes out the difference on its own.
Has anyone actually claimed through it in Malaysia? Curious whether walk-in at TRX or a courier collection is faster when the screen dies on a work day.
The 60 day window is what people forget. A friend of mine only noticed the deadline when the card statement arrived and by then it was already past.
Check what your credit card already covers before paying for a second plan. Some of the platinum cards include accidental damage for the first 90 days, which is not two years but it is not nothing either.
I went to a third party shop for a folding screen once. It was cheaper, but the crease never sat right afterwards, so on a brand new model I would stay official for at least the first year.
My worry is not the screen, it is the resale. Buyers ask whether the plan is transferable, and a Duo with cover still on it moves much faster than one without.
