SoyaCincau reported this morning (29 October 2026) that the base 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip is priced from RM8,299 here, while the touchscreen OLED model starts from RM11,999. That is roughly RM3,700 between two machines that will run the same apps for most people. The iMac 2026 with the M6 also landed today from RM6,499, which makes the comparison messier because a screen is included in that figure. If your work is mostly documents, spreadsheets and a browser, the gap between RM6,499 and RM11,999 is hard to justify on specs alone. What I am trying to work out is timing. The 11.11 presale opened on 27 October and the platform vouchers usually land on the 11th itself, so buying at launch means paying the first price of the cycle. The older M4 stock should also start moving down once resellers clear it. For anyone who has seen these in person or bought at launch before: does the touchscreen change how you actually use the laptop, and does the launch price hold or soften within the first month in Malaysia?

For most people the M4 will still be the sensible buy once the resellers start cutting it over the next few weeks. The M6 is not the generation that changes what you can do on the machine, it is the one that makes the previous one look expensive.
The touchscreen is the part I would want to handle before deciding. It sounds great on a slide, but every time I have used one I went back to the trackpad within a day and the fingerprints on the panel annoyed me more than the feature helped.
Worth confirming whether the RM8,299 figure is the smallest memory and storage step. Launch prices in Malaysia are usually quoted on the entry configuration, and the number people actually pay lands a fair bit higher once they add the memory they need.
If the work is spreadsheets, email and a browser, the iMac at RM6,499 already includes the screen. Different category, but people keep putting the two side by side because the figures sit so close.
Buy from the education store if you or anyone in the house is studying or teaching. Same machine, and the verification is just a student card at the counter rather than anything complicated.
Wait for the platform vouchers on the 11th rather than buying at launch. Last year the laptop category had stackable vouchers on the day itself that the Apple channel never matched, and the base configurations were still in stock.
