Mattress shopping in Malaysia: how do you actually test one before paying, without being pushed into the priciest floor model?

We spent most of last Saturday on the bedding floors of two malls and came out more confused than when we walked in. Everything feels brilliant for the first two minutes because the showroom is cold, quiet and the base under the mattress is hard as a plank. The thing that puts me off is that ten minutes tells you almost nothing. One shop offers a long home trial which sounds great until you read the fine print and realise the collection fee is on you if you decide to send it back. So how does everyone else do it? Do you go back a second time, bring your own pillow, lie down in the position you actually sleep in, or just buy from whoever lets you return it without an argument? Also keen to hear from anyone who genuinely used one of those home trials and got their money back without a fight. Trying to settle this before the year-end stock clearing starts.

Bring your own pillow, honestly. The showroom pillows are new and firm, so a medium mattress feels perfect for ten minutes and then like a slab by the third night at home.

Ask what is under the mattress before you judge the firmness. A lot of that hard feeling comes from the platform they put it on, not from the mattress itself.

Lied on one for twenty minutes in the shop and it still felt different after a week at home. Now I only buy where there is a proper home trial, and I ask how many nights it covers before handing over anything.
