Between the spectrum news this week and the telco names sitting in the trending searches again, my group chats have turned into plan comparison tables. Half the office is talking about moving lines, and the other half cannot be bothered because their number has been with the same operator since school. What I keep noticing is that the headline plans look great until you check them against your own life. Someone staying in a condo in PJ gets full bars on every network, while my parents in the kampung still lose signal behind the house on one of them. Then there is the contract side, the free phone bundles that lock you in for two years, and the family lines that have to move together or the shared data stops making sense. So I am curious how people here decide. Did anyone actually switch this round, and did the monthly bill end up lower after the first two months, or did the extras quietly creep back in once the promo period ended? And for those who are staying, what did the retention side actually offer you when you called in? Keen to know whether it is worth the phone call at all before I spend an evening on hold.

Moved my wife's line to a prepaid plan with unlimited social last month and the coverage at our place is identical to what we had before. The part I like most is that I can stop any month without sitting through a retention call.
Before comparing anything, test the network where you actually use it. I borrow a friend's SIM for a day, especially if you balik kampung often, because the area behind my parents' house drops to one bar on two of the networks.
Check your existing contract end date first. I nearly signed a fresh 24-month line while the old one still had four months to run, and the early termination fee would have wiped out whatever I thought I was saving.
