Nike's Genting outlet does 50% off storewide on two items from 6 to 16 November: does the two-item minimum actually save you money?

What started as a quick look at the Nike Factory Store at Genting Highlands Premium Outlets turned into a smaller question than I expected. The sale runs 6 to 16 November, 50% off storewide when you take two selected items, with another 10% off once you are holding three. The two-item rule is the part I cannot get past. I went up for one pair of running shoes, and the only way to reach the 50% was to add a second item I had not planned on. In the same week JD Sports is listing adidas at 25% off with a RM750 minimum spend using a promo code, which is the opposite bargain: a smaller cut, but no requirement to invent a second purchase. Has anyone actually done the comparison at the outlet, sticker against the brand's own online price during 11.11? I would rather know whether the 50% is measured off the retail price or off the outlet price already on the tag, because those are two very different numbers for the same shelf.

The second item is where the saving quietly goes. You walk in for one pair, leave with a second you would never have paid full price for, and the maths only works if that second thing was already on your list before you drove up.

Genting is the part people forget. Toll, petrol and the car park eat a chunk of a single pair, so this only makes sense if you are already going up for the weekend or buying for the whole household.

Check the sticker against the normal outlet price, not the original retail. The factory stores here already sit below mall pricing, so 50% off the tag is rarely 50% off what you would have paid at Mid Valley.

Sizes are the real gamble with a two-item rule. If the second pair has to come from the selected styles to qualify, most people end up taking a colourway they did not want in the first place.

Worth pricing the adidas offer properly before deciding. A quarter off with a RM750 basket rewards one big planned buy, while two items at half price rewards two small ones, and only one of those suits most people.

If you do go, go on a weekday morning before the 16th. Outlet stock at Genting thins out badly by the second weekend, and the queue at the till is slower than the browsing ever is.
