Outlet and mall sale season is starting again — do you still shop in person, or has online quietly won for you?

The year-end sale season is kicking off. The outlets and malls are already pushing their fiesta promos with 15% off mall vouchers and the usual "up to 70%" banners, and I am trying to decide whether to plan another Saturday around it. I used to do the whole ritual. Drive an hour each way, pay for parking, queue at the car park barrier, and come home with exactly one bag because the sizes left on the rack were the ones nobody wanted. Twice last year I checked the same item on my phone while standing in the shop and the online sale was cheaper anyway. To be fair, there are still things I would never buy blind. Shoes, jeans, anything formal that needs a fitting, and school shoes for the kids. The clearance bins also throw up the odd genuine find, and the mall vouchers stacked with the bank card are where the real value hides. So I am curious how everyone else handles it now. Do you still do the outlet run, or do you just wait for 11.11 and the year-end online sales? And is there any outlet in the Klang Valley that is actually worth the drive these days?

For shoes and jeans I still go in person. I ordered the same size three times online last year and got three different fits, and the return postage costs more than the petrol to the outlet.

My rule is to check the price on my phone while standing in the shop. Twice at an outlet the online sale was cheaper for the exact same item, and the staff actually matched it once I showed them the screen.

Go in the first hour of a weekday, not the weekend. The car park is empty, the fitting rooms are free, and the staff still have the energy to check the stockroom for your size.
