POPULAR and HARRIS opened their annual clearance on 31 October and it runs until 9 November, listed as up to 60% off stationery across 56 participating stores. It is the one week where refills, notebooks and assessment books actually come down instead of just the gift wrap and the greeting cards. In my experience the first two days are the only ones where the shelves still look untouched. By the second weekend the popular titles and the A5 notebooks are gone and you are left picking through novelty erasers and desk calendars. What I cannot tell from the flyer is whether the 60% bites on the volume sellers or only on the branded items parked at the end caps. If you have been to any of the Klang Valley branches this week, which ones actually have stickers on the shelf rather than just the banner at the entrance?

The 60% corner is usually the same one every year, last season's planners and wrapping paper. It is still worth digging for refills and exam pads underneath though.
Go on a weekday morning. By the first Saturday afternoon the aisle near the cashier is blocked by trolleys and the staff are restocking faster than anyone can browse.
Ask the counter which shelves are actually in the clearance. At the branch I go to last year two aisles were still regular price and only the end caps had stickers on them.
Bring a short list of refill sizes and notebook formats you actually use. Half the appeal is how cheap it feels and you come home with three things that never get opened.
Does the discount reach the school workbooks too, or only the branded stationery? Those workbooks are the only thing my kids burn through before the year ends.
Photograph the shelf label before you queue. If the till rings it up at the full figure you have something to point at instead of walking all the way back.
