Retailers here called it Black Friday on 6 November, three weeks early: is the early window where the discounts actually are?

Nitori's Black Friday sale opened at Pavilion Bukit Jalil on 6 November and is listed to run until 30 November, with up to 50% off selected Japanese home and living lines. That is three weeks before the actual Black Friday, which this year falls on 27 November. Nitori is not alone in stretching the label. Crossover Surplus at Johor Premium Outlets is listed from 6 to 30 November at up to 50% off selected items, and the Puma sale at Genting Highlands Premium Outlets has been running since 1 November on a buy two, get two free structure. 11.11 sits in the middle of all of it on 11 November with its own batch of vouchers and flash tiers. So the November calendar now looks like three discount events stacked on top of each other, and only one of them has anything to do with the date on the banner. I have started noting prices instead of reading the labels: the items I have been tracking at outlet stores did not move between the first week of November and the week the name actually applies. For anyone who has bought at these outlets in previous years: does the stock get refreshed through the month, or is it one shipment and then it thins out? And is the last week of November worth waiting for, or is the shelf empty by then?

The label arrives before the stock does. My nearest outlet already had the Black Friday bunting up in the first week of November while the racks were still last season's leftovers.

Track one item you actually want instead of the banner. I have been writing down the shelf price of a mattress at the same outlet for a month and the number has not moved once.

For shoes the early window is the only one that matters. A buy two get two on the wall empties the sizes most people wear long before the actual date, so waiting is how you end up with the odd pair.

Does anyone know if Nitori restocks through the month or if it is one shipment on day one? By the second weekend last year the Bukit Jalil floor was picked over and the staff said nothing else was coming.

My read is that a discount that survives a whole month was never a Black Friday discount. It is clearance that has been given a foreign name so it sounds like an event.

Has anyone compared the outlet price against the same item on the brand's own shop during 11.11? That gap, if there is one, tells you more than any of the banners do.
