Sports Direct's year-end sale runs 2 November to 3 January with up to 50% off running shoes - is two-season-old stock a fair trade?

Sports Direct's year-end sale at Pavilion Bukit Jalil opened on 2 November and runs all the way to 3 January 2027, advertising up to 50% off football boots, running shoes and sportswear. A two-month window usually tells you something about the stock: it is the older colourways and the sizes nobody reached for, and the shop would rather move it than keep it over Chinese New Year. The part I keep going back and forth on is running shoes specifically. Foam and glue age on the shelf even in a box, so a pair that has been sitting since the 2024 season is not quite the shoe that left the factory, however clean the upper looks. For gym sessions and school shoes it probably makes no difference at all. For anyone actually training for a half marathon it might. So I would like to hear from people who bought from that wall. Did the midsole go flat on you within a few months, or is the ageing story mostly something we tell ourselves to justify paying full price? And is it worth asking the staff which season a model came from, or do they genuinely not know either?

Went in on the second day. The running wall was mostly older colourways of Brooks and ASICS, and what was left in the popular sizes had already been picked over. Plenty of football boots though, which nobody seemed to be touching.

Foam ageing is real but slow if the shoe stayed boxed and out of sunlight. What actually kills it is heat, and a storeroom behind a mall in Bukit Jalil gets warm for most of the year, so how long it sat matters more than the season on the label.

For futsal and football boots I would not overthink it. The sole either grips the court or it does not, and you can feel that walking around the aisle before you pay anything.

Ask them plainly when the model was discontinued and watch whether they check the box or just guess. The ones who check are usually honest, and once you know the season you know roughly how old the pair is.

Picked up a pair there last year for gym use and they are still holding up, but I would not line up for a race in them. Two different jobs for the same shoe, in my opinion.

Does the same wall exist at the other outlets, or is it only the Pavilion Bukit Jalil one? The branch near me never carries the same range, so a trip across town is the only way to find out.
