Tesla cut Supercharger rates for non-Tesla EVs to RM1.26/kWh off-peak — does it change where you charge?

Tesla Malaysia has kept four of its Supercharger sites open to non-Tesla cars since March this year, but at RM1.80 per kWh it was the most expensive DC option on the market for anyone without a Tesla, well above the RM1.60 that Gentari usually charges. Most people I know only used it when the alternative was a queue at a mall charger. As of 3 November 2026 that has changed. The normal-hour rate for non-Tesla cars now starts at RM1.45 per kWh, and the off-peak rate drops as low as RM1.26 per kWh. On paper that makes the Supercharger cheaper than the network most of us default to. So the practical question: does a cheaper rate actually move you? Home charging still wins on cost for anyone with a landed house, but for condo dwellers waiting on management approval for a wallbox, the public DC price is the whole fuel bill. Four sites is also four sites, and a cheap rate is no use if the stalls are full. If you have used one of these since the change, say which route it sits on, what the off-peak window actually covers, and whether the app shows the non-Tesla rate before you plug in.

Non-Tesla driver here, been using one of the four sites since March out of desperation rather than choice. At the old rate I only stopped when the alternative was a long queue, so this puts it back on my list for highway trips.

The off-peak number is the interesting part for me. I already charge after the kids are asleep, so if the window really covers the small hours it beats the AC socket in my condo car park once the parking charge is counted.

Four locations is still four locations though. Every time I have pulled into one there was a Tesla already on two of the stalls, and nobody moves once they are past eighty percent and comfortable.

Does the app show the non-Tesla price before you plug in, or only on the bill afterwards? I got caught once because the screen quoted one figure and my card was charged the other.

For anyone without a landed house this matters more than it sounds. My management still will not approve a wallbox, so public DC is the only option and the gap between networks is basically my monthly fuel bill.

Worth comparing against the Gentari site on your usual route rather than just the headline figure. Some of the older cabinets are much slower than the rating suggests once a second car plugs into the shared unit.
