The rain has been arriving like clockwork since late October, and every time I drive home on the Federal Highway in it I think about the camera bracket I keep meaning to buy. Two things pushed it up the list this week: a nasty aquaplaning moment near the Jalan Templer stretch, and the number of cars I have seen sitting in flash flood water under the flyovers. The options are not cheap either. The 70mai A810 with the Sony Starvis 2 sensor has been sitting on the site at RM589 against a list price of RM689, and DDPAI opened an N5 Pro promotion on 2 November, so the whole category is pushing hard right now. Front plus rear plus parking mode plus a high endurance card is easily RM700 by the time you are done. What I actually want to know is whether the footage does anything. Insurers here ask for a police report, photos and a workshop assessment, and I have heard both versions: that a clip closed a disputed knock-for-knock in under two weeks, and that the adjuster never once asked for the video. If you have been through an accident claim or a flood claim, please say what happened and whether the paperwork mattered more than the camera. The other thing nagging at me is parking mode on the car battery in our heat. Anyone running one for more than a year without cooking the card, or the battery?

A clip is what saved me at a junction in Subang. The other driver insisted I ran the light and his insurer was ready to hold me at fault until I sent the timestamped footage. Settled in eleven days after that.
Keep the original file, not just a phone recording of the screen. My adjuster wanted the raw card because the timestamp has to line up with the hour written in the police report.
For a flood claim the camera has to be recording while the car is parked, which is exactly when parking mode drains the battery. Mine cut out after nine hours in the sun and I lost the whole afternoon of water rising.
Heat is the real killer here. I went through two cheap cards in a year, both stopped writing with no warning light at all. A high endurance card and a monthly format in the app sorted it.
Mount it high behind the mirror and run the cable down the A pillar to the fusebox rather than the cigarette socket. Mine kept popping loose on the Karak bumps and I did not notice for a week.
Does the ADAS on these actually work in the rain, or does it just beep at shadows? Mine warns at almost every overhead bridge once the wipers are on full speed.
